Pentabromobenzyl Acrylate is a glycol ether that is manufactured by reacting sodium carbonate with pentabromobenzene. It is used in wastewater treatment as a coagulant and flocculant. Pentabromobenzyl Acrylate has also been used as a polymer matrix to create polymeric materials that have interactive effects with other polymers. This chemical has shown to be a good analytical method for the detection of hydroxyl groups in organic compounds. Industrial preparation of this chemical involves methyl ethyl acrylate and anhydrous sodium.
