Description

Perfluoro-(2-methyl-3-pentanone) is an organic compound that belongs to the group of perfluoroalkanes. It has been detected in the environment as a result of its use in manufacturing processes, including the production of fluoropolymers and lubricating oils. The detection limit for this compound is 1 ppm. Perfluoro-(2-methyl-3-pentanone) is used as a solvent for analytical methods such as titration and viscosity measurements. The reaction mechanism involves the formation of pentane with the release of hydrogen fluoride gas. This active substance is synthesized by reacting hexafluoropropylene with methanol, which reacts with oxygen to give propene oxide and hydrogen fluoride gas: The linear regression analysis shows that there is a positive correlation between pentane concentration and water vapor concentration.
