Quinolin-8-ylmethanol is a compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to the DNA and preventing the synthesis of proteins. Quinolin-8-ylmethanol also has been shown to be degradable, which means that it can be broken down by enzymes in the body. This compound binds to the naphthalene ring in verbascoside, an extract from plants such as Verbena officinalis, and forms a chelate ring with it. The chelate ring is able to bind to aluminium ions and form complexes that are not soluble in water, which may lead to cancer cell death. Quinolin-8-ylmethanol also has been shown to inhibit skin aging by inhibiting lipid peroxidation.
