Quinazoline is a potent antagonist that blocks the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) to its receptor, preventing activation of the receptor and subsequent signaling. It has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis. Quinazoline also inhibits tumor cell proliferation by inhibiting the EGF-receptor pathway, thereby regulating cellular proliferation. The inhibition of this pathway may be due to binding at an allosteric site on the receptor or inhibition of phospholipase C activity. This compound has also been shown to have potent antitumor activity in vivo and in vitro, which may be related to its ability to inhibit angiogenesis and induce apoptosis.
