Description

All-trans-retinoic acid methyl ester is a retinoid analogue that is used to treat myeloid leukemia. It is an analog of retinoic acid, which inhibits the production of blood cells in myeloid leukemia cells by binding to retinoic acid receptors and inhibiting transcription. All-trans-retinoic acid methyl ester also has a prodrug form, all-trans-retinoic acid, which may be more effective because it can be converted into active metabolites in the body. All-trans-retinoic acid methyl ester has been shown to have anti-cancer effects on cancer tissues and cell cultures due to its ability to inhibit cellular proliferation and induce apoptosis. The anti-cancer effects of all trans retinoic acid methyl ester are due to its ability to bind with DNA, RNA and protein synthesis enzymes, as well as its ability to activate tumor suppressor genes.
