Description

Rac atomoxetine hydrochloride is a selective inhibitor of neuronal uptake of norepinephrine. It is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adults. The use of this drug results in increased concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine in the synapse, which may be related to its therapeutic effects. Rac atomoxetine hydrochloride has been shown to cause statistically significant improvements in ADHD symptoms when compared with placebo treatment, although it is not as effective as stimulant medications such as methylphenidate or amphetamine. When rac atomoxetine hydrochloride is administered with other drugs that affect neurotransmitters, there may be an increase or decrease in its efficacy. This drug has been shown to have cardiac effects on patients who are being treated for heart failure or coronary artery disease.
