Trans-resveratrol-4'-sulfate (TS) is a sulfated derivative of trans-resveratrol. TS has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting DNA synthesis. TS acts as an anticarcinogenic agent by binding to membrane transporters that regulate the uptake of carcinogens into cells. It also inhibits lipid peroxidation, which may lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). TS can be detected in tissue samples using spectrometric methods and mass spectrometric detection. In animal studies, TS was shown to inhibit tumor growth and reduce tumor size following tumor resection. Resveratrol is a phytoalexin found in grapes and other plants that have been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties.
