Rhodium(III) chloride is a chemical compound that is used as an oxidation catalyst, ligand in coordination chemistry, and a light emitter. The thermal expansion of Rhodium(III) chloride is 0.0003 cm·m·K at 25 °C. It has a hydrated form due to the presence of water molecules in the lattice. Rhodium(III) chloride reacts with methyl ethyl disulfide to form the rhodium ion and a sulfide complex. Rhodium(III) chloride is also used as an immunosuppressant drug for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. This compound also has been shown to inhibit GABA-gated currents in neurons, showing potential for use as an anticonvulsant drug.
