- Dithionicaciddisodiumsalt,dihydrate
Sodium dithionate dihydrate is a chemical salt that is formed by the reaction of sodium carbonate with sulfur dioxide to form sodium sulfite and hydrogen sulfide. It is used in analytical chemistry to remove chloride from solutions, such as wastewater. Sodium dithionate dihydrate can be used for the desulfurization process of chlorobenzene. The crystal x-ray diffraction study revealed that this salt has a crystalline structure with an orthorhombic symmetry and a space group P2/c. The x-ray diffraction study also showed that it has a similar structure to anhydrous sodium carbonate, NaCO3. Sodium dithionate dihydrate was not detected by nmr spectra, but it was found by analyzing the molecular weight of the compound using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.
