Description

Soyasaponin III is a major soyasaponin molecule that inhibits the activity of proteinases. It has been shown to have hepatoprotective properties and may have potential for use in cancer treatment. Soyasaponin III has been found to be active against WST-1 assay, an experimental model for cell proliferation. It also has antioxidant properties that help protect liver cells from oxidative stress.
Soyasaponin III is structurally similar to other soyasapogenols and can be analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods. It is an effective inhibitor of activated proteinases with an optimum concentration of 2 µM. Soyasaponin III is not active against plant enzymes such as papain or bromelain, but it does inhibit human pancreatic α-amylase at concentrations up to 8 µM.
