SMIA is a monoclonal antibody that recognizes the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) on tumor cells and inhibits the polymerase chain reaction. SMIA has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of recombinant proteins in vitro by binding to FABPs, which are required for their production. SMIA also inhibits the activity of fatty acid synthetases, which are enzymes that catalyze the formation of fatty acids. This inhibition leads to a decrease in cellular proliferation and an increase in apoptosis. The adsorption mechanism of SMIA is not yet known.
