Picolinic acid (PA) is a molecule that is important in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. This compound can be found in biological samples such as urine, serum, and cerebrospinal fluid. PA has been shown to cause respiratory paralysis at sublethal doses in mice. It has also been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties including significant interactions with other drugs, coordination geometry, nitrogen atoms, intramolecular hydrogen bonding, carboxylate groups, acetylcholine receptors, and sarin gas. PA has been observed to form stable complexes with methochloride and group P2 metals such as copper.
