Description

Silica is a non-metallic crystalline solid that can be found in nature as sand, quartz, and cristobalite. It is an important constituent of many rocks and has been shown to have a biochemical effect on living cells. Silica particles are porous with a pore size of 60 Å and particle size of 230-400 mesh. It is insoluble in water but soluble in strong acids. Silica reacts with both experimental solubility data and thermodynamic data for silicon. Silica has been shown to be nontoxic, non-mutagenic, and non-carcinogenic in animal studies.
