Boron is a metal that has been used as a preservative, fire retardant, and insecticide. It has also been used for the treatment of wastewater and in analytical methods such as an experimental solubility data. Sodium tetraborate anhydrous is a white powder that is soluble in water. It has been shown to be toxic to some organisms, including humans, and may cause irritation. Tetraborates are also used in the treatment of wastewater because they reduce the amount of phosphorus pentoxide needed and decrease the toxicity of copper chloride. The optimum concentration for boron-containing compounds is 0.3%.
