Sulprofos is a carbamate insecticide that inhibits the activity of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase. It has high resistance and is used as a broad-spectrum insecticide. Sulprofos has been shown to exhibit strong toxicity in human liver cells and hamster V79 cells, with low toxicity in kidney bean cells. Sulprofos also acts as an antagonist at the ryanodine receptor, which is a calcium channel found on muscle cells. Sulprofos binds to the alkyl group of this protein and blocks calcium from entering the cell, leading to muscle contraction.
