Description

(+)-Sabinene is a monoterpene that has been found to have biological properties. It is used as an insecticide and repellant, and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in vitro. (+)-Sabinene inhibits the enzyme activities of acetylcholinesterase, alpha-amylase, and phosphodiesterase in vitro. The optimum concentration of (+)-sabinene for these enzyme activities was determined using titration calorimetry. The toxicological studies show that (+)-sabinene does not produce any behavioral changes or locomotor activity at concentrations of 4 mg/kg body weight when administered intraperitoneally to mice. Toxicological studies also show that (+)-sabinene is not mutagenic in vitro, but can produce chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei in vivo.
