Description :Semicarbazide hydrochloride (SCH) is a pyrazole compound that has been used as an antimicrobial agent. It is also a potent inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is involved in the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles. SCH has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo by interfering with DNA replication and protein synthesis. SCH’s inhibitory properties have been demonstrated using nitrogen atoms as analytical markers. The semicarbazide moiety can be removed from SCH by treatment with anhydrous sodium hydroxide, which leaves the reactive group intact. This process can be used to analyze SCH’s structure and determine its genotoxic activity.
