• Description: Sarafloxacin is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the quinolone class. It has a chemical stability that allows for use in an injection solution, which may be useful for treating infectious diseases. Sarafloxacin has been shown to be active against human pathogens such as Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitides. This drug also shows activity against other human pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Sarafloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by acting on DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and RNA polymerase. The fluorescence detector detects fluorescence emitted from sarafloxacin-treated cells in the presence of two different wavelengths of light. This method is used in conjunction with LC-MS/MS to identify the antibiotic’s molecular targets and determine its mechanism of action.
