Sodium thiobenzosulfonate is a chemical compound that is used as an analytical reagent. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis and also to bind tightly to silver ions. The inhibition of fatty acid synthesis by sodium thiobenzosulfonate is due to the formation of a complex with the enzyme enoyl-ACP reductase, which inhibits its activity. Sodium thiobenzosulfonate has been shown to react with water vapor in the air, forming hydrogen sulfide and sodium bisulfate. This reaction can be used as a method for measuring water vapor concentration.
