Description

Sodium octyl sulfate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of surfactants. It has been used in the manufacture of monoclonal antibodies and liquid chromatography. Sodium octyl sulfate is used as a particle for the separation of phospholipids in the lipid bilayer membrane. The optimum concentration for sodium octyl sulfate is 0.1% (w/v) at pH 8.0, which corresponds to a dextran sulfate concentration of 0.5%. Sodium octyl sulfate reacts with hydrophobic compounds and forms aggregates, which can be detected by an electrochemical detector. When sodium octyl sulfate is added to a solution containing cationic surfactant and magnetic particles, it creates a mixture that will produce an electric charge on the surface of the particles when they are exposed to an electromagnetic field. This allows for detection by light absorption or fluorescence spectroscopy.br>br>
