Salvianolic acid D is a triterpene saponin that can be extracted from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhizae, which is commonly known as danshen. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, as well as protective effects against oxidative injury in vitro. Salvianolic acid D has also been shown to have activity against bowel disease in vivo. This compound has an effect on energy metabolism by increasing glucose injection and reducing oxidative injury. Salvianolic acid D may reduce the severity of diabetes by regulating signal pathways involved in insulin secretion and uptake. It also has a matrix effect on mitochondria, which reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and increases ATP synthesis.
Salvianolic acid D is effective at protecting against oxidative injury when used in combination with human serum or glucose injection.
