Description

Swertisin is a Chinese herb that has been used for centuries to treat diabetes mellitus. Swertisin's hypoglycemic effect may be due to its effects on mitochondrial membrane potential and the regulation of insulin secretion. The anti-diabetic effects of swertisin have been studied in vitro using cell culture assays and animal models. Synchronous fluorescence, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and rotarod tests have all shown a significant improvement in the glucose metabolism of diabetic mice. Swertisin also has antioxidative properties and genotoxic activity.
