Solanidine is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase. The toxicity of solanidine has been studied in vitro and in vivo.
Solanidine is a steroid alkaloid that can be isolated from potatoes and tomatoes. Solanidine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It also inhibits the growth of skin cancer cells and infectious diseases such as HIV, herpes simplex virus type 1, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus. Solanidine binds to nuclear DNA by competitive inhibition.
