The hydroxyl group of thymol blue sodium salt reacts with the carboxylic acid group of fatty acids, forming a cross-link between the two groups. Thymol blue sodium salt has also been used as a cross-linking agent in polycarboxylic acid hydration reactions, and as an analytical method for determining cationic polymerization.
