1-(2-Thienyl)-1-propanone is a compound that is metabolized by the human liver. It has been shown to have an optimal reaction at around 60°C. The elimination reactions of this compound are ethyl group, propionyl and 3-thiopheneacetic acid. This compound has been analysed in kinetic data and it has been found that there are no significant differences between the two enantiomers. 1-(2-Thienyl)-1-propanone has also been shown to inhibit carcinoma cells in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit transferase activity. This compound is also used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds such as (S)-N-Boc-L-tyrosine and 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde.
