It has been shown to inhibit neuronal death, and may be useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. 2-(Trifluoroacetyl)thiophene also inhibits thrombin activity and has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme aromatic hydrocarbon hydroxylase.
