Thiophene-3-methanol is a template molecule that has been used to prepare polymers. It can be used as an electrochemical data for the study of atomic orbitals, polymer films, and hydroxyl groups. Electropolymerization of monomers can be done at low concentrations to produce a thin film of polythiophene. The polymer film has been shown to have high UV absorption in the range of 200-350 nm and is also responsive to nucleophilic reactions. Toxicity studies on rats show that thiophene-3-methanol is not toxic at doses up to 2000 mg/kg body weight. Immobilized thiophene-3-methanol has been shown to be an excellent catalyst for NMR spectroscopy studies, which provides information about the structure and composition of molecules in solution.
