Trichlorobenzoic acid is a water-soluble chemical that is used as an insecticide and pesticide. It is a primary metabolite of photorhabdus bacteria, which are found in the gut of insects. Trichlorobenzoic acid has been shown to be active against the Enterocolitica genus and other Gram-negative bacteria. This compound also exhibits some biological properties, including protein synthesis inhibition and adenosine nucleotide hydrolysis. Trichlorobenzoic acid has been shown to have some therapeutic effects on primary sclerosing cholangitis and homologous serum hepatitis.
