Thiophene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is a molecule that has been shown to be an effective chemotherapy agent for human cervical carcinoma. The compound's skeleton is composed of a hydroxyl group, a carbon atom, and two oxygen atoms. Thiophene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is synthesized from monocarboxylic acids such as propionic acid and acetic acid. It has one chiral center and can exist in two different optical forms. The compound exhibits FTIR spectroscopy peaks at 2900 cm-1 (O-H stretch), 1640 cm-1 (C=C stretch), and 1170 cm-1 (C-O stretch). NMR spectra show the presence of carbon atoms with signals at δ = 1.0 ppm (singlet), 5.8 ppm (triplet), 8.4 ppm (quartet), and 10.6 ppm (doublet).
