2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene is a chemical compound that is used in the production of explosives. It has been shown to have cardiotoxic effects when administered at high doses and can induce congestive heart failure (CHF). This drug is also known as TNT and it is a nitro compound. The toxic effects of this drug may be due to its ability to inhibit multidrug efflux pumps in cells. 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene has also been used as a fluorescence probe to study the role of intermolecular hydrogen bonding in nitro compounds.
