Thiocarbohydrazide is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by binding to the receptor site in their cell membranes. Thiocarbohydrazide is used in wastewater treatment to reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus that are present in wastewater. It has been shown to be effective against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as yeast, and it can be used to inhibit the growth of bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Thiocarbohydrazide has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).
