2-Tetradecyloxynitrobenzene is a cationic surfactant that is used as an electrolyte in membrane electrodes. This compound has been shown to have a fast response time and low detection limit. It also has a high selectivity for anions, which makes it useful for the separation of organic compounds. 2-Tetradecyloxynitrobenzene has been shown to be sensitive enough to detect the presence of dodecyl, tetradecyltrimethylammonium, and chloride ions at concentrations as low as 10 mM.
