Description

4-Toluenesulfonylbromide is a cationic polymerization agent that can be used as a synthetic and efficient method for the synthesis of cyclopentenes. It is typically used in cross-coupling reactions with various functional groups. 4-Toluenesulfonylbromide has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties, which are determined by its ability to inhibit hepatic CYP3A4 enzyme activity and cause liver injury. This compound also reacts with chloride ions to form the reactive intermediate 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate, which then reacts with a molecule of the electrophilic starting material to form an addition product. The reaction mechanism of 4-toluenesulfonylbromide involves an initial attack on the carbon atom adjacent to the carbonyl group in the electrophilic reactant.
