2-Thiophenecarboxylic acid sodium salt (2TCAS) is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of organic compounds. It has been shown to be an anticancer agent, with a mechanism of action similar to other estrogen receptor modulators. 2TCAS inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells by inhibiting the production of estrogen and progesterone, which are both important for normal cell function and proliferation. 2TCAS also induces apoptosis in cancer cells by binding to DNA, leading to cross-linking and DNA damage. This leads to the activation of pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bax and caspase 3, which then activate downstream apoptotic pathways.
