Tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane is an organic solvent that has a high boiling point and low volatility. It has been used as a cross-linking agent, monomer, and additive for plastics. Tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane also has been applied as a surface treatment for polymers in the manufacture of contact lenses. Tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane is used in ophthalmic preparations to reduce protein adhesion to the lens surface. This compound may be found in plasma samples at concentrations less than 1 ng/mL, and its effects on humans are not well understood. Covid-19 pandemic was the first influenza virus to have an amino acid substitution in NS1 that conferred resistance to tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane. The mutation occurred in cells that were grown at 37°C with constant exposure to high concentrations of tris(trimethylsiloxy)silane, which are not relevant
