2-(Trifluoromethyl)toluene is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of fluoroalkyl compounds. It is an organic solvent with a high boiling point and a low volatility. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)toluene has been shown to be an acceptor in the reaction of benzotrifluoride with hydrochloric acid and hydrogen fluoride, which leads to the formation of fluorine and hydrogen chloride gas. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)toluene has been shown to have carcinogenic properties in animal studies, as it induces cancer cells in the liver, lung, and skin in rats. This chemical has also been found to cause insulin resistance by altering glucose metabolism.
