It binds to the thyroid hormone receptor, leading to the activation of other transcription factors and increased synthesis of proteins. 3,3',5-Triiodo thyroacetic acid has been shown to increase the metabolic rate in rats by increasing the expression of epidermal growth factor in skin cells and signal transduction in nerve cells.
