• Description: p-Toluenesulfonic anhydride is a tosylate reagent for the conversion of alcohols to alkyl tosylates. It is used in chemical biology and biochemistry as a protonation agent, which reacts with nucleophilic groups (e.g., hydroxyl) on proteins or other biomolecules. p-Toluenesulfonic anhydride also has been used in the synthesis of organic compounds, such as drugs, pesticides and herbicides. This compound can be used as a catalyst for palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions that are site specific due to its high reactivity and susceptibility to hydrolysis. p-Toluenesulfonic anhydride is not active on aromatic rings because it does not have a nucleophilic group.
