Description

Tributyl phosphate is a compound that contains three butyl groups bound to a phosphorus atom. It is used as an industrial chemical, in the treatment of wastewater, and as an additive in gasoline. Tributyl phosphate is also known for its reactive properties, which could lead to problems with the mitochondria. The molecular pathogenesis of tributyl phosphate has been studied extensively, and it has been shown to inhibit signal pathways and mitochondrial membrane potential. It may also cause cellular damage by interacting with proteins involved in energy metabolism. Tributyl phosphate's synergic effects have been observed with picolinic acid and nitrite ion, which lead to increased cell death.
