1-(Thiophen-2-yl)heptan-1-one is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of fatty acids. It has been found to be an effective desulfurization agent, and can be used as a synthetic intermediate for the production of drugs, pesticides, and other chemicals. This compound has also been shown to have metabolic profiles that are orthogonal to those of endogenous fatty acids. 1-(Thiophen-2-yl)heptan-1-one is a grignard reagent that can be used for alkylation reactions and ionisation mass fingerprinting. This chemical has been shown to have evaporative profiles with similar retention times to common metabolites such as acetoacetate, succinate, and valerate.
