L-Tyrosine benzyl ester 4-toluenesulfonate is an enantioenriched chiral building block that can be used to synthesize enantiomerically pure compounds. It is a suzuki coupling reaction product of 3-iodo-L-tyrosine and benzyl bromide, which is then reacted with benzenesulfonyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine to give the desired product. The synthesis of L-tyrosine benzyl ester 4-toluenesulfonate has been shown to be more efficient than the traditional method of using L-(+)-leucinamide as the reactant. This process is also advantageous because it does not require the use of a protected amino acid or a protecting group for L-tyrosine.
