• Description: Tetrapropylammonium chloride is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) catalyst that can be used to improve the efficiency of PCR. Tetrapropylammonium chloride has a hydroxyl group on its nitrogen atom, which makes it soluble in water and hydrochloric acid. It is synthesized by the reaction of sodium chloroacetate with tetrapropyleneamine. Tetrapropylammonium chloride also has an inhibitory effect on ouabain binding and can be used as an inorganic chemical for energy efficiency and glycol ethers (e.g., ethylene glycol). Chromatographic methods have been developed to separate cationic surfactants, such as benzalkonium chloride, from other organic compounds.
