Tolazoline is a non-selective alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptor agonist that stimulates cardiac contractility and vasoconstriction. It is often used to treat pulmonary edema, congestive heart failure, and primary pulmonary hypertension. Tolazoline also has antiinflammatory properties that may be due to its effect on the 2-adrenergic receptor. This drug is used as an adjunct therapy for bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, with zirconium oxide. Tolazoline can be detected in human serum by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
