Triphenylphosphine oxide is a triphenylphosphine oxide that is an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to have a high affinity for the receptor site of bacteria, leading to its inhibition of bacterial growth. Triphenylphosphine oxide has been shown to react with hydrogen fluoride in solution to form phosphoric acid and triphenyl phosphate. The reaction was determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and analytical methods. Structural analysis revealed that the redox potentials of this compound are dependent on the metal hydroxides present, which may affect its efficacy as an antimicrobial agent. Hydrogen bonding interactions have also been observed in the crystal structures of this compound.
