5-(Trifluoromethyl)picolinonitrile is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst in the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines. It has been used to catalyze the conversion of 5-nitrobenzaldehyde to 5-aminopyridine. This reaction proceeds under mild conditions and does not require a solvent. The metal catalyst is most commonly palladium, although some catalysts are based on platinum or nickel.
