Tolylene-2,6-diisocyanate is an inorganic acid that is a precursor to hexyl isocyanate. It has been shown to have long-term toxicity and the potential for activation of carcinogenic metabolites. Tolylene-2,6-diisocyanate reacts with amines to form carbamates and urea derivatives. It has also been shown to inhibit enzyme activities such as glucose oxidase and alcohol dehydrogenase. The analytical method for tolylene-2,6-diisocyanate involves reacting it with a hydroxyl group from human serum or urine samples followed by analysis by gas chromatography (GC).
