N-Trimethylsilyldiethylamine is a silylating agent that is used in the preparation of pharmaceutical preparations. It can react with hydroxyl groups to form a trimethylsilyl ether and hydrochloric acid, or with hydrogen fluoride to form trimethylsilyl chloride. It can be used as an acetate extraction agent and reacts with nitrogen atoms, chlorine atoms, and water vapor to form trimethylsilyl amine. This compound has magnetic resonance spectra that are characteristic for a molecule containing an acetate group and a carbonyl group. The chemical ionization mass spectrum contains peaks that correspond to the molecular weight of N-trimethylsilyldiethylamine (150) and its derivative (167).
