Tin(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate (SnCF3SO3) is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of HIV drugs. Tin(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate can be synthesized through an efficient method that involves the reaction of diphenyl sulfoxide and chloroformate. This reaction is exothermic and generates the desired product in high yield. Tin(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate has been shown to form a metal chelate with chloride ions, which may be due to its high affinity for these ions. Tin(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate also reacts with silver trifluoromethanesulfonate, forming a stereoselective β-unsaturated ketone.
