Phenazine is a heterocyclic organic compound that contains a benzene ring. The phenazine group is a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle that has two adjacent nitrogens in the ring and an amine group bonded to one of them. It is stable in acidic conditions, but it can be protonated or deprotonated depending on the pH. Phenazine reacts with potassium dichromate to form a yellow solid, which is soluble in water. This compound also has an oxidation potential of +1.54 volts and is considered a strong oxidizing agent because it can easily react with electron donors such as sulfates, nitrites, and nitrous oxide. Phenazine is used for the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals.
