3-(Trichloromethyl)benzotrifluoride (3-TMBF) is an efficient catalyst for the selective fluorination of alcohols, carboxylic acids, and esters. It has been used for the synthesis of intermediates for polymerization reactions as well as in organic chemistry. 3-TMBF is a stable compound that can be stored at room temperature. It is also a thermodynamically stable compound, meaning it does not decompose when subjected to high temperatures. 3-TMBF is soluble in liquid phase and can be easily purified by distillation. The conversion rate of 3-TMBF to its active form increases with increasing pH levels above 5.5, but it becomes less reactive at pH values below 4.0 due to protonation of the trichloromethyl group.
